TOKYO, August 14 (RIA Novosti) - A 114-year-old Japanese woman, believed to have been the planet's oldest person, died in a nursing home Monday, the NHK news channel reported Tuesday.
Yone Minagawa was named the planet's oldest person by the Guinness Book of World Records in January following the death of another 114-year-old, American Emma Tillman.
Yone began feeling worse in June. After a course of therapy in a hospital, she returned to the nursing home. She was believed to have been feeling better, but at 6 p.m. local time (9 a.m. GMT) yesterday she died.
Yone outlived her husband and four of her five children, but she is survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
