TOKYO, August 29 (RIA Novosti) - A paralyzed South Korean national has set a 16,000-mile world distance record in a wheelchair, and now plans a 12,000-mile journey from Germany back to Korea, the Renhap news agency said.

During a 15-month-long trip across 31 EU countries and Morocco averaging eight miles per hour, Choi Chang-hyun, 42, operated his electric wheelchair using his mouth, as he cannot use his arms and legs.

His journey will be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest wheelchair marathon in the world. For his next trip, Choi plans to travel from Berlin to Mount Halla, on the southern South Korean island of Jeju, via Turkey, India, China and North Korea.

The traveler said the most difficult part of his epic journey was the trip through the Alps, during which Choi was forced to take painkillers and spend nights in the streets on an empty stomach.

Choi went on his first trip in 2001, crossing North America in 112 days.
