RIO DE JANEIRO, September 6 (RIA Novosti) - Experts of Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia's veterinary watchdog, have started inspecting the Brazilian system of veterinary control, Brazil's Agricultural Ministry said Thursday.

Brazilian officials expressed the hope that the 20-day checks would contribute to lifting the ban on the country's meat exports.

"Russia is an important market for Brazil and deserves the most careful attention," the country's agricultural minister, Reinhold Stephanes, said.

The delegation of Rosselkhoznadzor arrived in Brazil Wednesday, according to an agreement reached during talks between the two countries' veterinary services held in June and July in Moscow.

During their visits, Russian experts will become acquainted with the full production cycle of Brazilian meat, the work of the country's veterinarian service and the system of control over the most dangerous diseases.

A memorandum defining the conditions of Brazilian meat supplies is expected to be signed November 1.

Russia has imposed temporary restrictions on the country's meat imports from 14 enterprises after the probe revealed it was infected with dangerous diseases, including salmonellosis.

In August, Rosselkhoznadzor agreed to resume supplies from seven Brazilian plants, but banned meat supplies from two others.
