The comments from Ali Larijani come ahead of Monday's meeting of the International Atomic Nuclear Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting Monday in Vienna, where a confidential report on Iran's nuclear program is due to be delivered by the IAEA chief, Mohamed ElBaradei.
Larijani said, "The issue of Tehran halting its uranium enrichment is an old one, which is absolutely unacceptable for us," adding that even if new UN sanctions were introduced Iran would continue its nuclear program, which it claims is for peaceful purposes.
Last week, western media published excerpts from the IAEA director general's confidential report, which calls Tehran's agreement to answer questions on its nuclear program a "considerable step forward," but says Iran should make additional efforts to prove that the program has peaceful goals.
The report also said that Tehran had resolved all IAEA issues regarding experiments with plutonium, and that the agency considers the issue closed.
Iran, which Western countries, led by the U.S., suspect of pursuing a secret nuclear weapons program, recently intensified cooperation with the IAEA, and invited weapons inspectors to visit a 40-MW heavy water reactor in Arak in July.
