LONDON, September 14 (RIA Novosti) - British authorities reported Friday that cattle on a second farm have tested positive for foot and mouth disease.

They said the disease was detected in grazing cattle near Egham, Surrey, in a 10km-surveillance zone (6 mile) set up round a farm where an outbreak was discovered Tuesday.

"Laboratory tests have today confirmed the presence of foot and mouth disease in the cattle herd ... where culling was completed yesterday," an agriculture ministry statement said.

"The farm is within the existing protection zone and adjacent to the infected premises confirmed on Tuesday," the ministry said.

As a precaution 300 cattle have been culled to prevent the outbreak spreading Debby Reynolds, the chief veterinary officer said.

Confirmation of the disease Wednesday caused the European Union to enforce its ban on British exports of meat, livestock and dairy products until October 15.

The U.K. suffered a disastrous outbreak of foot and mouth in 2001, when over 6 million animals had to be culled.
