WASHINGTON D.C., October 5 (RIA Novosti) - Police have killed a gunman who shot five people in a 10-hour standoff in a downtown Alexandria law office in Louisiana, the local media reported Friday.
Police first received reports about the shooting at 2.20 p.m. local time Thursday. John Ashley, 63, a retired city of Alexandria employee, who had reportedly been suffering with depression over the past few years and whose daughter died earlier this year, holed up in the building of the Giordano & Giordano law firm, The Town Talk Alexandria said.
The standoff ended with a large-scale assault by police at about 12:08 a.m. local time. Police used armored vehicles to storm the building, the paper said.
Three of the five victims were seriously injured, with the gunman and the two remaining victims confirmed dead, the paper said referring to family members.
