RUSSIA

* The U.S. and Russia failed to resolve a missile defense dispute at Friday's talks in Moscow between the countries' foreign and defense ministers, but agreed to resume negotiations next April in Washington

* Russian President Vladimir Putin said:

- he hoped the U.S. would not rush to finalize missile defense agreements with Europe until talks with Russia are over

- he calls for expanding the Russia-U.S. agreement on the scrapping of short and medium-range ballistic missiles, to include other countries

* President Putin will back the shared position of the six international mediators on Iran's nuclear program during his visit to Tehran next week, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said

* A Russian Soyuz TMA-11 spacecraft carrying the 16th International Space Station crew, including Malaysia's first astronaut, has docked with the station, mission control said

* Russian top WTO negotiator Maxim Medvedkov said:

- Russia will discuss its bid to join the World Trade Organization with Georgia on October 19 in Geneva

- Russia will ask the World Trade Organization to protect its interests if the European Union passes laws restricting Russian energy companies' operations on its territory

* Gazprom discussed its possible involvement in new projects in Venezuela at negotiations in the South American country, Russia's state-controlled natural gas giant said

* Russia's Unified Energy System (UES) it will sell its stake in heavy machinery manufacturer Power Machines to a strategic domestic investor through a closed tender by late November
