GAZA, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - At least one Palestinian gunman has been killed and seven injured in clashes with Israeli troops conducting an operation in the south of Gaza, local radio said on Wednesday.
The militant killed was a member of Azeddine al-Qassam Brigades, a paramilitary group with the Hamas movement. Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip from the pro-presidential Fatah movement in June.
Those wounded include three Hamas members and four activists from al-Quds Brigade, a military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement.
Israeli troops detained about 15 Palestinians suspected of being involved in terrorist activity.
Palestinian media say over 20 armored vehicles are currently being used in the operation.
