BISHKEK, October 24 (RIA Novosti) - President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev dismissed the government on Wednesday following the adoption of the country's new Constitution.

Kyrgyzstan voted in a referendum on a new Constitution on Sunday aimed at ending a long-lasting political crisis in the Central Asian republic and strengthening the president's power.

"The dismissal is not connected with the government's activities. I believe that this government has successfully carried out its tasks," Bakiyev told a government session.

Bakiyev told the government to continue working until a new Cabinet was formed.

Bakiyev also signed a decree on Tuesday to hold early parliamentary elections on December 16, a presidential spokesman earlier said.

In line with the new Constitution, the Kyrgyz 90-seat parliament will be elected from party lists for the first time in the country's history. A threshold of 5% has been set for parties to occupy seats in parliament.
