LISBON, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Lisbon on Thursday for a two-day official visit, during which he will meet with Portuguese leaders and attend a Russia-EU summit.

The president, visiting the country for the second since 2004, plans to discuss the current state of bilateral relations between Russia and Portugal and prospects for their further development.

On Friday Putin will attend the Russia-EU summit in the town of Mafra near Lisbon. Portugal currently holds the rotating presidency of the 27-nation bloc.

The summit is expected to address major problems in EU-Russian relations, including a new partnership and cooperation agreement, Russia's embargo on Polish meat, Russian opposition to Kosovo's independence, a dispute over flights of EU jets over Siberia, Iran's nuclear program, and U.S. plans to deploy missile shield elements in Poland and the Czech Republic.
