DONETSK, December 1 (RIA Novosti) - A new explosion has ripped through the notorious Zasyadko coal mine in eastern Ukraine injuring five people, emergencies services said Saturday.
"The explosion occurred at the same depth. Five people were injured. The fate of the remaining people is unknown. Evacuation is underway," a rescue service spokesman said, adding there were 385 miners underground at the moment of the blast, which reportedly occurred at 4 a.m. GMT.
On November 18, a blast at the Zasyadko mine in the Donetsk Region, the heart of the country's coal industry, caused a fire to rage through the mine. More than 100 miners died in the explosion and after it.
Authorities said then that faulty equipment and poor safety conditions may have been behind the methane blast at the mine.
