KABUL, December 11 (RIA Novosti) - A drug addict from Herat, northwest Afghanistan, bit off his wife's nose and ear after going on a drug spree, national TV said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when the man, who is suffering from mental disorder, attacked his wife burning his child's leg, local media said.
According to the World Drug Report, Afghanistan accounts for more than 90% of the world's illegal opium production, which is used to produce heroin.
A total of 45% of the country's population suffer from mental illnesses, and the number of drug addicts is growing.
