TOKYO, December 25 (RIA Novosti) - Thieves in a car dragged a woman for 200 meters along the sidewalk as they tried to steal her handbag in Japan's second city of Osaka, police said.
"The woman who lives in Kyoto and works in nearby Osaka was returning home, when a white car approached her, and an unknown man leant out of the window and tried to snatch her handbag," a police report said.
The woman only let go of the bag to avoid hitting a telegraph pole, police said. The victim, who suffered light knee injuries, said there were two men in the car. Police have put them on the wanted list.
The woman said 23,000 yen ($207) was stolen.
Japan's commercial and gourmet food capital, Osaka is a major metropolitan with bristling nightlife. At nighttime, its population ranks third in the country at 2.6 million, in daytime it surges to 3.7 million, second after Tokyo.
