KATHMANDU, December 25 (RIA Novosti) - At least six people were killed and over 300 are missing after a bridge collapsed in west Nepal on Tuesday, China's Xinhua news agency said.

The suspension bridge over the Bheri River in the Surkhet district, some 320 kilometers (200 miles) west of the capital, Kathmandu, collapsed while over 400 people were crossing it.

Local media said the people had been on their way to attend a full moon festival celebrating the end of the rice harvest.

After plunging into the river, 150 people managed to swim ashore, while around 40 were rescued by emergency teams.

The country's army and police, as well as the Red Cross, are currently at the scene
