WASHINGTON, December 26 (RIA Novosti) - One visitor was killed and two others were injured when a tiger escaped from its cage at San Francisco Zoo on Christmas Day, local officials said.
An unidentified man in his 20s died at the scene, and two other people were taken to hospital with deep bites and claw cuts. They are now in a stable but critical condition, doctors said.
The nine-year-old Siberian tiger called Tatiana was shot to death by four officers who managed to distract the animal's attention as it was on top of a visitor.
It is unclear how the animal could have got out of its cage, zookeepers said.
In December 2006, Tatiana mauled a keeper at the zoo, severely lacerating her arm.
