Hong Kong remains world's freest economy

Hong Kong has been ranked as the freest economy in the world for the fourteenth time in a row, according to the annual Index of Economic Freedom report.
SYANGAN (Hong Kong), January 15 (RIA Novosti) - Hong Kong has been ranked as the freest economy in the world for the fourteenth time in a row, according to the annual Index of Economic Freedom report.

The 2008 ratings, compiled by The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal, assessed 162 countries on ten categories, including trade freedom, business freedom, investment freedom, and property rights.

In the ratings, Hong Kong is followed by Singapore, Ireland, Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Canada, Chile and Britain, which are all classed as free and mostly free economies.

Russia has been ranked no. 134 as a repressed economy, one place below Ukraine, which was labeled a "mostly unfree economy."
