PARIS, January 22 (RIA Novosti) - A French court has sentenced a Georgian man, who has been illegally living in France, to a year in prison for theft of pliers worth 18 euros ($26), French media reported Tuesday.

Since illegally entering France in 2002, the 35-year-old has appeared before a number of French courts and used eight different aliases. He has faced charges of theft, possession of stolen goods, using a false name and illegally living in France.

The court sentenced the Georgian man to the maximum sentence possible under French law and also barred him from entering France for two years.
