GAZA, January 30 (RIA Novosti) - The Hamas movement that controls the Gaza Strip is opposed to the involvement of third parties in running the Palestinian-Egyptian border, a top leader said on Wednesday.

A Hamas delegation, crossed earlier Wednesday into Egypt through the Rafah border check point en route to Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials.

"Egypt is our gate to the Arab, Islamic and entire world," Mahmoud Zahar was quoted by The Jerusalem Post as saying. "Therefore we will not allow the crossing to be used as a tool to suffocate the Palestinian people again."

He said the Hamas government is "the legitimate government that will not make any concessions on its legitimate acts."

Palestinians who flooded into Egypt last week are said to be returning to Gaza after Egyptian authorities closed markets, petrol stations and imposed accommodation bans, local media said Tuesday.

The border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip remains open with Palestinians having free access into the Egyptian side. A wall dividing Egypt and the Gaza town of Rafah was damaged by militants in a series of explosions on January 23.

The move gave Palestinians, subjected to an Israeli embargo on food and fuel, the opportunity to enter Egypt to buy much needed supplies.

Israel closed the border with Gaza and imposed restrictions on goods after militant rocket attacks from the Palestinian enclave on Israeli border towns.

Arab media reported that around 700,000 Palestinians, who visited Egypt within the last week, spent over $220 million on food, clothes, fuel and medicine, an average of $320 per person.
