Milan court acquits Berlusconi of false accounting

ROME, January 30 (RIA Novosti) - A Milan court acquitted on Wednesday former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi of charges of false accounting relating to the sale of SME food group, national media reported.

The allegations, dating back to the 1980s, were found by the court not to constitute false accounting under changes made to the law in 2002 under Berlusconi's premiership.

In April 2007 the media tycoon, who is now pushing for early elections to return to power after Romano Prodi's government fell last week, was acquitted of corruption and other charges relating to the SME case.

Several criminal cases have been launched against Berlusconi in the past 10 years on charges of corruption and forging financial documents, but he has yet to be convicted of any offences.
