NEW DELHI, February 26 (RIA Novosti) - India has successfully tested a submarine-launched nuclear capable ballistic missile, a spokesman for the Indian defense ministry said on Tuesday.

The K-15, which is a two-stage ballistic missile with a maximum range of 700 km (435 miles), was launched from a submerged platform on Tuesday.

"The test was a success," the spokesman said.

The K-15 is expected to be deployed on a nuclear submarine currently being built at a secret shipyard in the city of Visakhapatnam in the country's east. The submarine is expected to be ready for tests in 2009. With the submarine's commissioning, India will complete the creation of its nuclear triad composed of land, sea and air components.
