LONDON, February 27, (RIA Novosti) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale has hit the U.K, shaking homes in Newcastle, Yorkshire, London, Manchester, the Midlands and Norfolk.
The quake, the largest to hit the U.K. for over a quarter of a century, struck at 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday. One person was injured. There was no damage to property.
The British Geological Survey said an aftershock of 1.8 was measured at 4:00 a.m.
The main quake lasted for ten seconds, and was the largest since a 1984 earthquake of 5.4 in north Wales.
The epicenter of the quake was in Lincolnshire, according to the British Geological Survey.
