GAZA, April 8 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli troops have killed at least one Palestinian militant in a military operation in northern Gaza, local medical officials said Tuesday.
The Israeli military reported however that two militants had been killed and that small arms and antitank grenade launchers had been found on them.
Israel Defense Forces said the operation was carried out to counter "standard terrorist threats - sniper and missile fire and attempts to break through the border by militant groups."
The operation was held near Jabalia, the largest Palestinian refugee camp, where a large-scale Israeli raid took the lives of at least 60 Palestinians in late February.
Gaza is controlled by the hard-line Islamic group Hamas, which seized control of the enclave from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement last June.
