VIENNA, April 19 (RIA Novosti) - Three Romanians suspected of posing as policemen on the S1 highway in Austria to rob drivers were detained near the Austrian capital Vienna early Saturday, one of them later died, Austrian radio said.
Police reported the three, clad in Austrian police uniforms, stopped a car for a check, but the two men who got out of the car were real plainclothes police officers.
In a resulting clash, one suspect was killed and the two others tried to escape but had to surrender soon after being wounded.
The S1 highway has seen a few robberies by criminals posing as policemen since the last month. An investigation is underway.
