ABU DHABI, April 23 (RIA Novosti) - Three foreign workers fell to their death from a building under construction in the United Arab Emirates, after an accident caused by failure to communicate with a crane operator, the Khaleej Times said.
The paper cited police as saying the workers - two Indians and one Pakistani - fell from scaffolding while working on the 15th storey of the building in Sharjah when a crane operator delivered a heavy load of concrete on a platform, causing it to collapse.
"The workers tried to tell the crane operator not to put the concrete down until they had descended, but he couldn't understand what they said," the newspaper quoted a police officer as saying.
The crane operator has been remanded in custody pending an investigation.
