Egyptian police use crane to lift obese man through window
12:33 13/05/2008
CAIRO, May 13 (RIA Novosti) - Egyptian police were forced to borrow a crane to lift a man weighing 300 kilograms (660 pounds) out of his apartment window so he could be taken to hospital, national media said on Tuesday.
The man had been stuck in his room for several months, as he was unable to squeeze through the entrance. After several attempts to get him out failed, as he was significantly larger than the door and the stair width, his wife Fatima called the police.
The 'giant man' was securely tied to his bed, which was hooked up to crane ropes and lifted through the fifth-storey window.
As he was too large to be accommodated in a normal-sized ambulance, the man was delivered to hospital in a truck.
