DONETSK, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - One miner was killed and six are missing after a methane gas blast at a coal mine in eastern Ukraine, a spokesperson for the industrial safety watchdog said on Friday.
The explosion in the Krasnolimanskaya mine in the Donetsk Region, where 10 miners were working the night shift, occurred early Friday morning.
"The body of a miner has been brought up, three workers managed to climb out on their own, and six miners are still missing," Marina Nikitina said.
The Krasnolimanskaya mine is known for its poor safety record and is considered high risk for methane explosions. Last December alone, two fires occurred in the mine.
