TBILISI, May 30 (RIA Novosti) - Several opposition members have been beaten in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, local media reported on Friday.

Attacks on opposition members have stepped up following the May 21 parliamentary elections, won by President Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement. Georgia's United Opposition refused to recognize the results of the polls and began forming groups for an 'alternative parliament.'

On Friday morning a member of the For a United Georgia movement was beaten by five masked attackers. He was rushed to hospital with head injuries.

Overnight Thursday an observer at the country's parliamentary elections, representing Georgia's United Opposition, was beaten near his house in Tbilisi by four masked attackers.

And in the town of Gori in eastern Georgia a member of the Republican Party was also attacked and beaten. He has also been admitted to hospital.
