AMMAN, July 1 (RIA Novosti) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will visit Syria on July 6-7 for talks with the country's leaders, a political source in Jordan said on Tuesday.

Abbas is expected to meet Syrian President Bashar Assad and some leaders of Palestinian movements living in the country. The source did not confirm whether Abbas would hold talks with Hamas or Islamic Jihad heads, but said that no arrangement had been made.

The source said the negotiations will be focused on Abbas' call for Palestinian dialogue to put an end to disputes between movements and fractions. The leaders are also going to discuss the implementation of Egypt-brokered Israeli-Palestinian truce, which started on June 19, but has been repeatedly violated by rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.

Hamas seized the Gaza Strip over a year ago from the Palestinian president's Fatah movement, and although a Fatah delegation met with Hamas leaders in June, Abbas has said that the radical group must be prepared to cede the Gaza Strip as a condition for peace talks.
