TASHKENT, July 10 (RIA Novosti) - Several people have been killed in a series of explosions at an ammunition depot in central Uzbekistan, independent news agency Fergana reported on Thursday.
The agency said the blasts in the town of Kagan started at 1:48 a.m. local time on Thursday (20:48 Wednesday GMT), sending artillery shells shooting into the air.
"There are fatalities and injuries, but their number is not yet known," the report said.
A resident of nearby Bukhara, the Central Asian country's fifth largest city, earlier told RIA Novosti that the blasts could be heard from Bukhara, and had been ringing out all through the night.
He said Kagan residents were fleeing to Bukhara.
Uzbek officials have yet to comment on the blasts.
