DUSHANBE, July 15 (RIA Novosti) - A woman in north Tajikistan has given birth to quadruplets, all of them boys, a local doctor said on Tuesday.
The newborn babies, weighing between 1.2 kgs (2.6 lbs) to 1.7 kgs (3.7 lbs), are reportedly doing well, the doctor at the maternity ward where the woman gave birth said.
The delivery, which was the first for their mother, aged 24, went "without any complications," the doctor added.
There are no reports as to whether the mother had any fertility treatment, which would increase the risk of multiple pregnancies.
Quadruplets are really rare, and the chance of a woman delivering them is approximately 1:512,000. Unfortunately, most quadruplets are usually born prematurely, and the survival rate is quite low.
