BEIJING, July 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's aid to China after May's devastating earthquake in its southwest province of Sichuan totaled $14 million, a Russian diplomat in Beijing said Wednesday.

The May 12 quake, which affected more than 47,000 villages in three provinces, was the most severe to hit China in three decades, measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale. It killed at least 70,000 people and displaced around 10 million more.

"The sum includes the work of Russian rescuers and the mobile hospital in Sichuan province, Mi-26 helicopter flights and crew, and humanitarian aid," Igor Morgulov said.

The diplomat said Russia sent to China 2,000 tents, 11 electric power generating units, 23 field kitchens, 21,000 blankets and 30 metric tons of food.

Sichuan Province Deputy Governor Huang Xiaoxiang said earlier that the country's direct economic losses from the earthquake exceeded 1 trillion yuan (around $150 billion).

The quake completely destroyed more than 16,000 businesses, making 372,000 city dwellers jobless just in Sichuan, while damage to the agricultural sector is put at around $6 billion.
