BEIJING, July 24 (RIA Novosti) - More than 45 million people have been affected by natural disasters in China this July, with 283 dead and 39 missing, the Chinese Xinhua news agency reported Thursday.

Almost 3 million people have been evacuated from disaster-hit areas, where more than 4 million dwellings have been destroyed.

The disasters inflicted economic losses of $241 million.

Meanwhile, two powerful shocks jolted on Thursday the southwestern province of Sichuan, which was hit by a devastating quake in May. At least one person died and several were injured in the tremors, which measured up to 6.0 on the Richter scale.

Approximately 19,000 aftershocks have been recorded in the area since the quake occurred on May 12.

The quake, which affected more than 47,000 villages in three provinces, was the most severe to hit China in three decades, measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale. It killed at least 69,197 people and more than 18,000 are still missing.
