PRAGUE, August 8 (RIA Novosti) - A passenger train smashed into a collapsed bridge in the Czech Republic on Friday, killing at least 6 and injuring 31 others, local emergency officials said.

The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. (08:30 GMT) near the town of Studenka, about 210 miles east of Prague, when part of a road bridge, which was being repaired, fell onto the track as the train approached. The locomotive and several cars were damaged in the smash.

Rescuers are working at the scene to try and locate casualties in the train's wreckage.

Police earlier said 10 people had been killed and about 100 were injured. At least 13 people were said to be in a critical state, medics said.

The EuroCity train, traveling at 140 kilometers per hour (85 mp/h), was heading from the Polish city of Krakow to the Czech capital Prague. Around 400 people were on the train at the time of the crash, local TV said.
