Swiss prosecutors rule out diplomatic end to Qaddafi son case

GENEVA, August 13 (RIA Novosti) - Prosecutors in Geneva said Wednesday there was no way a criminal case against the Libyan leader's youngest son that triggered a diplomatic spat with Tripoli last month could be closed for political reasons.

Muammar Qaddafi's son Hannibal was arrested in Geneva on July 15 over allegations that while at a five-star hotel he assaulted two employees, from Tunisia and Morocco.

Qaddafi, notorious for his misconduct, spent two days in custody while his pregnant wife was under police supervision in a clinic in Geneva. They were released on bail and left Geneva.

Meanwhile, his arrest sparked a diplomatic row between Switzerland and Libya, which resulted in the arrests of two Swiss passport holders in Libya and the recall of Tripoli's diplomatic representatives to Switzerland.

The country also halted oil shipments to Switzerland. In late July, the Swiss nationals were released and Libya's oil deliveries resumed.
