CAIRO, September 8 (RIA Novosti) - Egyptian market stall holders have named their cheapest dates 'in honor of' U.S. President George Bush as revenge for U.S. policy in Iraq and the Palestinian territories, local media reported on Monday.

Egyptian merchants usually give names to various sorts of fruit ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which has just begun.

As tradition has it, the most expensive fruits are named after popular politicians and celebrities, while the cheapest ones are named after people who are loathed in the Arab world.

One kilogram of the "Bush date" in a Cairo market costs around 7 Egyptian pounds ($1.2). The most expensive dates, named Ghost, are available at the price of 40 Egyptian pounds ($7.3) for 1 kg.

Dates are often eaten with milk after dusk to break the Ramadan fast, observed during the hours of daylight.
