Another 200 local people have been diagnosed with cholera, all of them have been hospitalized, the Baghdad newspaper quoted Mohammad al-Khuzai as saying.
The medic said the situation was being aggravated by a lack of essential medicines and clean drinking water, as well as high temperatures.
Authorities in Babil have declared a state of emergence to try and control the spread of the disease and have already appealed to the central government for assistance.
The first reports of cholera emerged in south Iraq's Maysan province in August, when a three-year-old child died of the infection. Six people were diagnosed with cholera in Baghdad two days ago.
Last year, over 4,000 cases of cholera were reported in the country, with more than 20 deaths.
