NEW DELHI, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - More than 30 people, mostly women and children, are feared dead after a boat carrying people to a Hindu festival capsized in a river in northern India, local media said on Thursday.

The overloaded boat sank in the Harohar River, 40 km east of Patna, in the Bihar state after becoming caught up in a fishing net, media reported citing local officials.

Some six people managed to swim to safety, while others are still missing.

According to witnesses, the boat was carrying between 30 and 40 passengers. A search for those missing people is underway. No bodies have yet been found.

Boat accidents are common in India, as safety rules are often ignored and the vessels are overloaded.
