21:02 22/09/2008
KABUL, September 22 (RIA Novosti) - Afghanistan has protested to Pakistan over the lack of safety for its diplomats after the abduction of the Afghan consul general in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar earlier in the day.
Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Sultan Ahmad Bahin told RIA Novosti in a phone conversation that unknown assailants had opened fire on the car of the consul general, Abdul Khaliq Farahi, on Monday. Farahi, who has been consul general since 2002, was kidnapped, while his driver-cum-bodyguard was killed in the attack.
Pakistan's charge d'affaires in Afghanistan was summoned to the Afghan ministry over the abduction of the diplomat and told that the kidnapping should be investigated as soon as possible.
