WASHINGTON, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - Tourists in California have found a pilot's license thought to belong to the well-known millionaire-adventurer Steve Fossett, who disappeared last year and was declared dead in February, a senior local policeman said Thursday.
Randy Schienle, police chief at the Mammoth Lakes Department, said the finds also included an identity card bearing Fossett's name and $1,005 in cash.
The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that the data printed on the pilot's license coincide with the information in its data bank.
Fossett, 63, took off in single-engine Bellanca Super Decathlon airplane from a Nevada ranch on September 3, 2007, and has not been seen since.
No traces of the crashed plane have yet been found. A search is currently underway near Mammoth Lakes.
Fossett's widow, Peggy, said in a statement she was not involved in the new search and had "no further plans for additional searching."
