JAKARTA, October 8 (RIA Novosti) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has reaffirmed his plans to step down from office next March, four years before his term ends, national media reported on Wednesday.
He said he would hand power over to his deputy, Najib Razak.
Abdullah has faced mounting pressure to quit since leading the ruling National Front coalition to its worst performance in a general election ever earlier this year.
He announced his decision at a meeting with coalition leaders and is due to make a public statement soon.
