"A G8 summit will be held again this year, with the participation of developing countries," Merkel said in a speech to the Bundestag, the German lower house of parliament.
A special group of financial and economic experts will also be formed within the German government to draft proposals to resolve the global financial crisis, Merkel said.
The Bundestag debated on Wednesday the government's proposal to set aside 480 billion euros (655 billion dollars) as a stabilization package for the country's crisis-hit banks.
The German leader also urged amendments to international rules for regulating the financial market.
No timeframe for the G8 summit has yet been fixed, but discussions are due to start in the near future. A European Union spokesman said the G8 - Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and Russia - could hold a summit in November.
