BEIJING, October 31 (RIA Novosti) - At least seven people have been killed and one listed as missing during heavy snow storms in Tibet, the worst to hit the region on record, Chinese media reported on Friday.

The victims either died of hypothermia or were buried under buildings, which collapsed under the weight of the snow.

The worst-hit regions, which have witnessed 36 hours of incessant blizzards, received an average of around 1.5 meters (five feet) of snow.

A total of 1,348 people, stranded as a result of the snow storms, have been rescued, while rescuers continue their search for around 300 people still missing.

The storms also killed over 144,000 head of livestock.
