JAKARTA, November 5 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 42 people have been killed and eight are listed as missing following a ferry accident in Philippines, local media reported Wednesday.
The MV Don Dexter Kathleen capsized on Tuesday off the Masbate island. Around 100 people managed to swim to safety.
Investigation showed that the ferry was significantly over its 100-passenger capacity and could not withstand a sudden gust of wind.
The ship's manifest said that the vessel had 119 registered passengers and six crew members onboard. However, rescuers believe that many passengers had not been officially registered.
The rescue operation is expected to end on Friday. The vessel's captain, Dante Bombales, was detained for questioning.
