Israel reimposes Gaza blockade

GAZA, November 18 (RIA Novosti) -- Israel closed border crossings with the Gaza Strip again on Tuesday, citing ongoing rocket fire at its towns, Israeli radio reported.

The decision came despite warnings from aid groups of looming shortages of food and fuel supplies.

Palestinian rocket attacks and retaliatory Israeli strikes have broken a five-month truce brokered by Egypt in June, and led to the resumption of an Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip on October 30.

Israel opened a border crossing on Monday for the first time in two weeks, allowing in about 30 truckloads of food and medicine and a limited amount of diesel fuel.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has described Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip as a "war crime".

The UN and other international organizations have demanded an end to Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, saying the area has been completely cut off from the outside world.

At least 17 Palestinian militants have been killed since November 4, when Israeli troops went into the enclave to destroy a tunnel which Israel claimed had been dug as part of planned operations to abduct its soldiers.

Gaza has been ruled by the radical Islamic group Hamas since last June.
