Kazakhstan government offers $10 bln economic rescue plan

ASTANA, November 24 (RIA Novosti) - The government of Kazakhstan will allocate at least 1.2 trillion tenge ($10 billion) to implement an anti-crisis program to see the country through the global financial crisis, the prime minister said on Monday.

Karim Masimov said the government's stabilization plan addresses five areas defined by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"They include measures to spend $4 billion on ensuring the stability of the financial sector, $3 billion on the real estate market, $1 billion on supporting small and medium business, $1 billion on expediting the development of agricultural businesses and also $1 billion on implementing breakthrough innovation, infrastructure and industrial projects," Masimov said.

The premier said the stabilization plan developed by the government, the national bank and the Financial Supervision Agency would enable the Central Asian country to emerge from the global crisis with a modernized and more competitive economy.
