ANKARA, December 8 (RIA Novosti) - The Turkish Air Force carried out a number of strikes on Kurdish separatist positions in northern Iraq, the NTV channel reported citing defense sources on Monday.

NTV said the raid, which lasted 25 minutes, was carried out on Sunday evening. The TV channel said no civilians were hurt in the strikes and it is not known whether any militants were killed or injured.

The Turkish General Staff has not yet confirmed the report.

The strikes follow similar raids by Turkish artillery and air force units on Friday that targeted separatists from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the Qandil Mountains.

The Turkish army said on its website, "The targets... were struck successfully."

The PKK, considered a terrorist organization by the EU, the U.S. and many other countries, has been fighting for an autonomous ethnic Kurd state in southeast Turkey for nearly 25 years. The conflict has claimed over 40,000 lives.
