ASTANA, February 2 (RIA Novosti) - Kazakhstan's state debt increased by 412.4 billion tenge ($3.4 billion) to 1.33 trillion tenge ($11 billion) in 2008, Kazakh Finance Minister Bolat Zhamishev said on Monday.
"Government debt amounted to 1.015 trillion tenge ($8.45 billion), including domestic debt of 820.2 billion tenge ($6.8 billion) or 80.8% of the total government debt," the finance minister said.
In 2008, domestic government debt grew by 308.5 billion tenge ($2.6 billion) due to the placement of government securities worth 465.2 billion tenge ($3.875 billion) while redemptions totaled 157.8 billion tenge ($1.35 billion), the finance minister said.
"The government's foreign debts totaled 195.4 billion tenge ($1.62 billion) or 19.2% of the total government debt," Zhamishev said.
