KABUL, February 11 (RIA Novosti) - The Taliban claimed responsibility on Wednesday for two deadly explosions in the Afghan capital of Kabul.

A spokesman for the radical Islamic movement said as quoted by a local TV channel that the blasts were aimed at Interior Ministry officers in revenge for the treatment of jailed militants. The Taliban said at least seven officers were killed.

A police source earlier said the explosions, including one near the Justice Ministry, had killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more, and gunfire had been heard in three districts in the capital.

Police are now searching the city for at least five suicide bombers.

The Taliban, ousted from power in the 2001 U.S.-led invasion, has stepped up attacks in recent years. U.S. President Barack Obama has pledged to send an additional 30,000 troops to the war-ravaged country.
