TEL AVIV, March 5 (RIA Novosti) - At least two Palestinian militants were killed and another one wounded on Thursday in an Israeli airstrike on the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, local radio said citing the Israeli military.

The targets of the airstrike were members of the radical Islamic Jihad faction, who were suspected of firing an anti-tank missile at troops on the Israeli side of the fence separating Gaza from Israel.

"We have registered a direct hit [on the Palestinian targets]. There were no casualties on our side," an Israeli army spokesman said.

On Wednesday, an Israeli airstrike killed a senior Islamic Jihad commander, suspected of orchestrating rocket attacks on the Israeli city of Ashkelon, north of Gaza.

The Israeli military said militants had fired about 20 rockets into Israeli territory over the weekend and at least one early on Thursday.

The continuing violence in Gaza threatens to jeopardize a shaky truce between Israel and Palestinians following a recent devastating Israeli attack on the impoverished Palestinian enclave.

A three-week long Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip killed around 1,300 Palestinians and injured another 5,000 in December-January. Around 50,000 people were also left homeless by the ground and air assault, which was launched in response to the firing of homemade rockets at southern Israeli border towns by Palestinian militants.
