SEOUL, March 8 (RIA Novosti) - North Koreans are electing lawmakers to the country's parliament on Sunday in an election that could provide a clue to who will be the country's next leader, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

The elections to the Supreme People's Assembly will be the first since North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il reportedly suffered a stroke last summer, the agency said.

The parliamentary elections were initially scheduled for last year but were postponed presumably over Kim's illness.

The state of Kim's health has caused widespread alarm, as he has not named a successor to lead the communist state, which has the world's fourth-largest army and carried out a nuclear-bomb test in 2006.
